Is 1,000 lumens too much for indoor defensive use? 

In most cases, no. High output at close range creates a significant disorientation effect on a threat while giving you a clear identification picture. Indoors, the light will also reflect off walls and surfaces, which can actually improve situational awareness in a room. For pure range use, some shooters prefer a lower setting, but for defensive purposes the high output is an asset.

How do the ambidextrous switches work? 

Switches sit on both sides of the light body and are reachable without shifting your grip. Holosun upgraded the texture and shape from previous models for better traction, particularly with wet or gloved hands.
